Mobius Photonics Names Robert L. Mortensen CEO

SANTA CLARA, Calif., September 15, 2009 - Mobius Photonics, an innovative producer of short pulsed fiber laser sources (IR, green, and UV laser), has named Robert L. Mortensen its Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

"Bob Mortensen brings decades of business management experience with successful start up photonics companies and we are very pleased he's joined us as CEO," said Kiyomi Monro, Mobius Photonics vice president of business management. "Mobius Photonics was founded in 2005 with a mission to produce precise, reliable fiber-based laser sources. Today, our unique technology is being transitioned into commercial products-it is an important time in our evolution and we welcome Mr. Mortensen's guidance and expertise."

Robert Mortensen, a pioneer in laser business, joined Spectra Physics in 1964. He joined Quanta-Ray in 1975 as CEO and led the very successful company until its sale in 1980. He then founded Lightwave Electronics Corporation in 1984 and was its CEO for more than 15 years. He was an active member of Lightwave Electronics' board of directors until the company was acquired in 2005. Mortensen has been a board member for Mobius Photonics since 2006. He holds an M.B.A. from Harvard University.
