Mobius Photonics

The current product family is denoted as the G1+ Laser System and features both fundamental (IR) and harmonically wavelength converted (green and UV) outputs. These products are based on a pulsed master-oscillator, fiber-power-amplifier (MOFPA) architecture. An all fiber amplifier design eliminates the complexity and performance limitations of bulk amplifiers or Q-switched lasers. G1+ Laser SystemThe unique architecture of the G1+ Laser System allows diffraction limited operation over a wide range of user adjustable pulse repetition frequencies, pulse widths, and duty cycles. In contrast to conventional solid-state lasers, the output beam spatial properties, such as beam diameter, divergence, and pointing, are largely independent of the system operating parameters.

A modular product design enables efficient manufacturing, enhanced serviceability, and provides an easy upgrade path. All product modules are entirely air-cooled, eliminating the requirement for problematic water cooling. The G1+ Laser System product family is designed for RoHS and WEEE compliance.

Applications

The G1+ Laser System product family addresses commercial materials processing applications, especially semiconductor and microelectronics processing. Application areas include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Materials Processing
  • Wafer scribing and dicing
  • Low-k dielectric scribing

  • Micro-welding
  • Wire bonding (especially gold / copper)
  • Photoresist patterning
  • Micromachining
  • Micro-via drilling
  • Marking

Designed for OEM Integration

The G1+ Laser System consists of two electronic modules, an optical head, and associated cabling. The Source Module contains the control electronics and low power optical circuitry. The Pump Module contains the high power laser diode that pumps the final power amplifier. The Optical Head contains both the final power amplifier and an optical output section that includes optional harmonic wavelength conversion crystals. The system is designed so that the electronic modules and optical head are field swappable.G1+ Laser System

The G1+ system design facilitates integration into an OEM operating environment. The electronic modules are both rack mountable and operate from standard 110 VAC wall outlets. Overall power consumption is less than 2500 Watts. The Optical Head can be mounted in either a vertical orientation (as shown) or a horizontal orientation (rotated 90 degrees from the position shown). Connections between the electronic modules and Optical Head are via 5 m long cables, allowing flexible system positioning and orientation.

Mobius Photonics Patent for Precise Average Power Control of Green and UV Fiber-Based Light Sources Targets Process Uniformity, Repeatability, Pulse Stability.

SANTA CLARA, CALIF. – May 12, 2009 —Mobius Photonics, Inc. has been awarded U.S. Patent #7,529,281, “Light source with precisely controlled wavelength-converted average power”.

The key innovation protected by this patent is the control of wavelength-converted pulse energy and average power, achieved through control of the wavelength conversion efficiency. The patent is particularly useful in fiber MOPA (master-oscillator, power amplifier) systems where the (infra-red) IR fundamental wavelength is converted to green or (ultra-violet) UV wavelengths.

Dr. Laura Smoliar, CEO of Mobius Photonics, Inc., said, “We are pleased that the United States Patent Office confirmed the novelty and utility of our power control concept. Our system's exceptional pulse stability and control enable superior process uniformity and repeatability for a diverse array of precision material processing applications, from scribing of large-format solar panels to meeting tight cutting or drilling tolerances needed for miniaturizing electronics. This patent further differentiates our products from incumbent laser technologies and other laser suppliers”
